Ah, but who am I kidding… I live in Northeast Ohio now! However, I do know that there’s a sea of illustrators and character designers out there, so I appreciate you dropping in. Please surf through some of my work. Then drop me an email. I’d love to help you tell your next visual story.
My Approach: The first wave of the process is to conduct research that inspires multiple concept sketches from a variety of angles as a way to help solve your visual story. I use a combination of drawing, color shape and texture to create the final image. My ultimate goal is to create whimsical characters and environments in fun, humorous and clever situations that can convey your visual story in the most compelling and entertaining way. Oh, and I’m a nice, flexible kind of guy who works really hard. Just ask the seagulls above!
Experience: I’m no Barney (that’s a surf term for newbie). I have contributed my talents as a staff artist to the Walt Disney Animation Studio and Disney Consumer Products in Burbank, CA. I traded Southern California for the midwest to work in Licensing, Entertainment, Alternative Humor and New Intellectual Properties at American Greetings. I currently work on a freelance basis with national clients in a variety of markets including editorial, publishing, greeting cards, licensing, toy and animation. I also teach illustration and character design as an Assistant Professor at the Cleveland Institute of Art.
